Changing your choir settings

Choir voices, default appointment confirmation, shared annotations, name and description — where the settings live, who's allowed to change them and how you save.

Web + app

A choir in cori has surprisingly few settings — and exactly three of them noticeably change your day-to-day: which voices your choir sings, the default appointment confirmation and whether members may share annotations. This guide shows where the settings live, who's allowed to change them and how you save them.

Who can change the settings?

Any member can open the choir settings — right at the top sits their own voice part, and everyone gets to set that themselves. Everything below that, in the For the whole choir section, is visible only to the choir leadership and admins. The server double-checks this, so simply getting the page open isn't enough.

Where the settings live

Web app
Open “Choir” in the sidebar. At the top right, next to the choir's name, the “Settings” button takes you to the “Choir settings” page.
Mobile app
Open the Choir tab. Below the subscription or recommendation card, the “Choir settings” tile takes you to a screen of its own.

The settings one by one

Your voice part

It sits right at the top (for the choir leadership and admins under For you) and applies to everyone: your voice and, if your choir splits it up, the divisi part (Soprano 2, say). Only the voices set up under Choir voices are on offer. Your voice part always applies to this choir only — in another one you can happily sing something else.

Name and description

The choir name and description can be edited in the web app and in the app. You can't save without a name. In the app, the description appears in italics at the top of the choir page — a good spot for your rehearsal time and venue.

Choir voices

This is where you set which voices your choir sings in. The row shows the current setup, “SATB” for instance; a click on it opens the voice editor (in the app as a screen of its own). Members then only pick their voice from these voices, and the member list, appointments and attendance group by exactly this setup.

  • Template: SATB, SSAATTBB, SAB, SSA, SSAA, TTB or TTBB. If none of them fits, it reads Custom setup. Your own voices such as “Band” stay when you switch the template.
  • Voices: every voice shows its divisi parts and how many members sing it. Tap a voice to choose the number of divisi parts (none, 2, 3 or 4) and to set whether the divisi part is required. Then “Soprano” on its own isn't enough for members, they have to decide between Soprano 1 and Soprano 2, for instance. Use the handle on the left to change the order, and Remove voice to throw a voice out.
  • Add another voice: missing basic voices are added with a single click. Type your own voice into the text field, Mezzo, Baritone or Band for example (40 characters at most). Your own voices have no divisi parts.
  • Show divisi parts separately in lists: appears as soon as a voice has divisi parts. With the switch on, member and attendance lists show Soprano 1 and Soprano 2 for everyone instead of just Soprano. Underneath you can see which groups this produces.

The voice editor saves with its own Save, independently of the rest of the page.

When members need a new voice

If you remove a voice somebody sings, or make the divisi part required, those members' voice no longer fits. cori flags that with New voice needed and takes you with Next to the Assign new voices step. There you pick the new voice for each member, or for a whole group at once with Assign to all. Wherever you don't know yet, leave Assign later in place: those members keep their previous voice for now, and you change it later in the member list. Anyone who gets a new voice also moves to the chat of their new voice part.

Default appointment confirmation

Choosing Accept, Uncertain or Decline determines the status members start out with in a newly created appointment, before they've responded themselves.

  • Accept suits choirs where the weekly rehearsal is a given for everyone and only absences get reported.
  • Uncertain requires an active response from everyone.
  • Decline works well for extra appointments where only confirmations count.

The setting applies to future appointments — responses that have already been recorded stay exactly as they are.

Members can share annotations with their section

When the switch is on, members may share their markings in the sheet music with everyone who sings the same voice part. Annotations for the whole choir remain reserved for the choir leadership and admins regardless.

Leaving and deleting a choir

The critical actions sit right at the bottom. They're described in detail elsewhere — see Leaving a choir and Deleting a choir.

Saving

The same applies in the web app and in the app: your input is only applied when you choose Save. The button becomes active as soon as you've changed something. If you go back via the back arrow with unsaved changes, cori asks Save changes? and you decide between Save and Discard. The choir voices are saved separately by the voice editor, see above.

Changes don't reach everyone instantly

The other members will see the new name or the new default response as soon as their app next loads the choir data. In the app, a pull-down on the choir page is enough.

What deliberately isn't here

A few things you'd expect in the choir settings are handled elsewhere in cori:

  • Who may post in a chat group — you set that per group in its info view.
  • Roles and admin rights — you assign those via the ⋮ menu in the member list.
  • Invitation link — in the web app it sits behind the Invite Member button next to “Settings”, in the app behind the + next to the member count. Both are visible only to the choir leadership and admins.
  • Subscription and payment — in the web app only, under Subscription.
